Quarterly report
Time for another quarterly report. I’ll list some things I did in the past few months, and retire accomplishments less recent.
Done last quarter
- Helped announce variable fonts. Did an interview for Fast Company. Had an idea about specifying CSS instances relative to an “anchor point”. Sep 2016
- Noticed that type sized in pixels or viewport units ignores user font-size preferences. Sep 2016
- Wrote about flexible typography with CSS locks See the responses from Jake Giltsoff and Bram Stein. Aug 2016
- Tried using Anchor.fm to share audio thoughts about fallback fonts, display text, and reading distance. Aug 2016
- Spoke at the Hudson Valley Tech Meetup in Kingston, NY (just a block away from my office). Jul 2016
- Finally hung the glass sign I gilded in John Downer’s 2011 TypeCon workshop. Jul 2016

- Wrote & published a lesson at Typekit Practice: Caring about OpenType features. Lots of people helped make it happen. Dec 2015
- Launched Typography Supply, an inventory of typographic tools. (with Andrew Johnson) Dec 2015
- Redesigned this website. Dec 2015
- Managed the introduction and announcement of Frere-Jones Type on Typekit. Dec 2015
- Managed the introduction and announcement of Morisawa fonts on Typekit. Oct 2015
- Presented a UIE virtual seminar on typesetting body text. The crew at UIE is incredibly professional, and this was a great experience. Oct 2015
- Wrote Math is not God for Dear Design Student. Sep 2015
- Wrote Uncertainty is part of the job for Dear Design Student. Aug 2015
- Wrote The web is terrible for typography! for Dear Design Student. Jul 2015
